The Devon Theater has quickly become an important and valuable member of the Northeast Philadelphia community. The Devon's pre-season featuring, NUNSENSE, THE ODD COUPLE, music and comedy concerts, along with this summer's production of THE MUSIC MAN and Camp Devon 2009 have exceeded all expectations, provided opportunities for young an old alike, brought a community together, and created something wonderful...not to mention all the fun we've been having! We're learning together, laboring together, and laughing together. As a result, I believe our community is benefitting in numerous ways.

Below are just a few notes we've received about the positive impact the Devon Theater is having:

Testimonials
Dear State Representative John Perzel:

I am writing on behalf of my Grandson, Daniel Tobin. He recently attended the Devon Summer Camp (Camp Devon 2009), where he learned about theater and also took part in the production of the Music Man. For Daniel, this was a very positive experience. He not only learned about how the theater works, but also had a chance to interact with the cast of the show and actually became part of the show. Daniel is 11 years old and has always had an interest in music and performing. Camp Devon 2009 gave him the chance to pursue his love of theater, and do so in his own community. I was most impressed with the staff of the Devon, headed by Michael Pickering, Artistic Director. They were friendly, knowledgeable and concerned about the campers and the community. As somoeone who has been very active in the community, I believe The Devon has had a very positive effect on our neighborhood and surrounding communities. It is hard to express the importance of having an asset like The Devon in our community. I would urge you to give The Devon the support that they need and deserve. Thank you for helping to support a very deserving entity such as The Devon.

Sincerely,
Terry Tobin

Dear Senator Tartaglione:

Just wanted to send along a quick email to let you know what an asset we have in the Northeast Philadelphia community, with the opening of The Devon Theater. I was lucky enough to take part in the Devon's Summer Community Theater Program, as a cast member in THE MUSIC MAN. I don't quite know how we fit them all on the stage, but Michael & Amy Pickering, along with their staff and backstage crew, took upward of 130 people (including 70+ kids!) and created an entertainment experience that could have sold out the theater for several weeks running. As it was, we had four standing-room-only performances. I think everyone involved - cast, crew, directors, orchestra and most importantly, audience - had a wonderful time taking part in this community event. It was a valuable educational experience for all of us who participated. I hope you'll always remember how the Devon Theater benefits the community when you consider legislation and funding supporting the arts in Pennsylvania.
Sincerely,
Regina Deavitt Beaucheane

Hello,

My name is Jillian Mullin.  I am the mother of a wonderful seven year little girl, Angelina.  During this past summer, Angelina has participated in the first ever "Camp Devon".  It was an amazing experience for her.  Angelina has had a very hard time socially this past year.  She is very shy and often becomes a target for mean children. Camp Devon has brought Angelina out of her shell.  She was put into group with some older children, which we were very nervous about, but with an outstanding staff (Amy Pickering is one in particular) and and unbelievable group of children Angelina was accepted with arms wide open.  Now my daughter has found a passion for the performing arts and intends to pursue this as a full time hobby.  More importantly my daughter has left Camp Devon with a whole new attitude.  I sometimes wonder how in just two weeks this inspiring new group could take a my shy, nervous daughter and turn her into a confident, motivated little lady (who shrieks show tunes from the Music Man all day). The reason for my letter is to share my experience with our local politicians to encourage support for the best thing that has happened to our community in a long time.  This is not only beneficial to the youth but to the entire area, young and old!  Thank you for reading my letter.  I know how just important some feedback can be.

Dear Congressman Schwartz:

A note to say 'thank you' for supporting the Devon theatre in Mayfair, Pa.  What a wonderful and prosperous addition to the community.  Not only monetarily but also in enriching the lives of the people.  The summer camp series was especially wonderful with helping our youth learn good skills while having a great time putting on a show.  Giving them a productive summer rather than getting into trouble. These kinds of theatre programs are essential with the development of children and the community. I ask you to continue to support the Devon in Mayfair, Pa.  This is one area that will be enriched by this theatre.  I applaud all who work hard to bring us this wonderful addition to Mayfair. Thank you for your time.
Micki Sharpe

Congresswoman Schwartz
Carlton Stuart,

I just wanted to let you and Allison Schwartz know what a fabulous enterprise the Devon Theatre is for Lower Mayfair.  I've been a volunteer at the theatre since it began performing shows this past spring and it's amazing how many locals are also volunteering and patronizing the theatre.  What a fabulous exposure for the young people in that neighborhood.  I hope you'll support the theatre, especially with funding available for the arts.
I look forward to many years of supporting this endeavor and hope Ms. Schwartz will too.
